Plaza Theatre, Orlando Florida - March 14, 2010

Before the portrait session with Matt, I was able to go in the venue and photograph sound check. This was a bit of an honor, because photographers are not generally allowed in until they open the doors to the public.  But thanks to a mutual friend of mine and Matt’s, he let me come in and hang out before the show.

The man with the camera in the photo above is Char Beck. He was on the road with Matt and band, documenting the behind the scenes stuff for a series of web videos called “On The Run” which shows just how serious, mature, and un-humorous Matt and the guys really are. Here’s an example of such serious moments:

And, of course, the thing that follows sound check is the show…

After his set, Matt always goes out to the lobby to meet his fans. He stays till every single one of them has gotten a chance for a photo, autograph, quick conversation, whatever it is. Couldn’t ask for a more standup guy.

Up next was the headliner of the evening, Five for Fighting.

The drummer spotted me standing over on the side of the stage and started showing off for the camera :-) Works for me!

I actually didn’t get to stay for the whole show since it was a Sunday night and in Orlando. I had to drive two hours back home and be at work in the morning, so I left after the first few songs of Five for Fighting’s set. Wish I could’ve stayed for more because, as you can see, the lights were pretty cool and he was putting on a great show.
