Crowbar - Tampa, Florida - May 14, 2010

This was a show I was excited to go see, and especially to shoot. OK Go are known for their unique music videos, so I was hoping for a cool and unique show.  While not quite as elaborate as their videos, they still put on a good show and everyone had a great night.

The biggest surprise for me was that they played at such a small venue. I would’ve expected them to be at The Ritz or State Theatre, but this worked well enough.

Lots of images in this post…

First up was Robert Francis, who played with lots of energy and passion. I dug it.

Just as an example of how much stuff was on this small stage…

Next up was what I would call the head-banging noise rock of Earl Greyhound. Wasn’t a big fan, but shooting was fun thanks to the long hair…

Lastly, the great entertainers OK Go.

For about the first 15 to 20 minutes of the show, Tim was the only one who had any light on him. Apparently the confetti blower unplugged the cable that powered the rest of the front lights. So they decided to stop playing long enough for the crew to bring a ladder into the crowd and plug the lights back up.

While we waited, they decided to do a little theater performance…

They got that back up and running and continued the show.

They had a screen up behind the drummer that switched between video feed from the mic stands and other random stuff that made for some interesting backdrops…

It was kind of difficult to get good shots from where I was standing, but they also broke out some handbells for one song…

After Damian realized there was a young girl right in front who was there with her older sister and (jokingly) asking what kind of parents she had that would let her come to a concert that was so late at night, he pulled her up on stage to help out with a song…

Damian made his way into the crowd for a song…
